HCC MGM CULINARY ARTS INSTITUTE
We are proud to partner with with the Holyoke Community College MGM Culinary Institute. Timmy attended HCC between 1998 and 2000. In pursuing a Culinary Arts certificate, he was able to bring his passion for cooking to life and hone the skills necessary to become a local chef.
In his memory, we have established the Timothy M. Thompson Memorial Scholarship to assist current and future HCC students who share a similar desire to study the Culinary Arts. The hope is that this financial assistance will empower other budding chefs to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals while advancing their education at the HCC MGM Culinary Arts Institute.
Help us reach our goal!
In order to endow the scholarship, we need to reach $15,000. Click the button below and select “Timothy M. Thompson Memorial Scholarship” from the “Designation” dropdown menu.
ABOUT THE HCC MGM CULINARY ARTS INSTITUTE
The HCC MGM Culinary Institute (HCC CAI) opened on April 12, 2018, supported by a $500,000 donation by MGM. This state of the art facility, located on Race Street near the Holyoke canals, is equipped with five professional grade kitchens and is only a seven-minute drive from HCC’S main campus on Homestead Avenue. The HCC CAI replaced HCC's former culinary department space, which had one kitchen and a small baking area. HCC is the only community college in Massachusetts accredited by the prestigious American Culinary Federation. Learn more.
COMMUNITY MUSIC SCHOOL OF SPRINGFIELD
We’ve partnered with the Community Music School of Springfield (CMSS) to support their percussion program, including studio space and financial aid for students. Timmy was drummer in local heavy metal bands Face and 6thirty7. He recorded multiple albums and had the opportunity to tour up and down the east coast in the late 90s and early 00s. Timmy and his bandmates also performed at Locobazooka—an annual outdoor music festival held in New England showcasing heavy metal acts.
We are giving back to CMSS’ percussion program, which offers individual lessons, ensembles, and classes for people of all ages in our community to learn everything from basic concepts of rhythm, drum and stick techniques, and musicality, to complex arrangements in a variety of musical genres. Some areas of study include: bucket drumming group, drum set, hand drums, Latin percussion, and symphonic percussion.
